In a dramatic turn of diplomatic outreach, hundreds of former Israeli officials have signed an open letter appealing to former U.S. President Donald Trump to help broker an end to the ongoing war in Gaza.

The signatories comprising ex-military generals, diplomats, intelligence officers, and senior civil servants expressed alarm over the escalating humanitarian crisis and the broader regional instability caused by the prolonged conflict. They believe Trump’s unique relationship with Israeli leadership and global influence could serve as a catalyst for peace.

“We believe that your personal involvement at this critical moment could help end the bloodshed and restore a path to stability,” the letter reads, referencing Trump’s past success in brokering normalization deals between Israel and several Arab states under the Abraham Accords.

The appeal comes amid growing international pressure for a ceasefire, with mounting civilian casualties and infrastructure collapse in Gaza drawing condemnation from human rights groups and foreign governments.

While the Israeli government has yet to officially respond to the letter, political analysts suggest the move reflects internal divisions within Israel’s elite over the direction and duration of the military campaign.

Trump, who is currently campaigning for a potential return to the White House in 2025, has not publicly commented on the appeal. However, his past stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and close ties with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu place him in a unique position should he choose to intervene.

The unprecedented plea underscores the desperation for a diplomatic breakthrough as the Gaza war continues with no clear resolution in sight.
