A man has appeared in court facing terrorism and arson charges in connection with a firebomb attack that sparked alarm among residents and law enforcement.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Daniel Brooks, was arraigned on Thursday at a magistrates’ court following his arrest earlier this week in connection with an incident involving an improvised incendiary device.

Prosecutors allege that Brooks deliberately targeted a government-affiliated facility, setting part of the building ablaze in what authorities believe was a politically motivated act. No injuries were reported, but the attack caused significant property damage and led to a temporary lockdown of the area.

Counterterrorism officers led the investigation, citing evidence that points to extremist intent and premeditation. During the brief court hearing, Brooks spoke only to confirm his name, age, and address. No plea was entered.

The court ordered his remand in custody pending a preliminary hearing at a higher court scheduled for next week.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said the case underscores the importance of continued vigilance against domestic threats, noting that further charges may follow as investigations progress.
