London, UK – The UK Government has issued an urgent recall of thousands of laptops, smartphones, and smartwatches sold by Chinese manufacturer Dorland, citing serious fire and explosion risks.
The recall, announced by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), affects all Dorland devices distributed through Amazon UK. Consumers who purchased affected products are advised not to use them and await further instructions from Amazon regarding returns and refunds.
According to the OPSS, the devices were marketed as being safe for use in hazardous explosive environments, including industrial sites such as oil depots, chemical plants, and pharmaceutical facilities. Dorland’s promotional materials claimed their products were “especially suitable for hazardous explosion environments.”
However, an investigation by the OPSS found no evidence of appropriate conformity assessments being carried out before the products entered the UK market. As a result, the devices have been deemed a significant safety hazard.
