The family of Ross Ogbeinde, a Nigerian international student in the United Kingdom, is appealing for financial assistance to arrange his burial after his unexpected passing on December 29, 2024.
Sudden Tragedy
Ogbeinde, originally from Benin City, Edo State, was pursuing his education at the University of South Wales, where he was scheduled to graduate in January 2025. Residing in Pontypridd, South Wales, with his wife and three children, Ogbeinde reportedly collapsed and lost consciousness before succumbing to the incident.
According to a GoFundMe statement by his wife, Benedicta, Ogbeinde passed away before paramedics could arrive. The family now seeks to raise funds to cover burial arrangements and other expenses.
Community Support Needed
The fundraising campaign, launched on GoFundMe, has a target of £20,000 to support the family. As of Sunday, £225 had been raised through eight donations, accounting for just 1% of the goal.
The funds are intended to assist Benedicta in caring for their three young children and managing immediate expenses.
“This young widow will need your support to care for the children and meet their immediate needs,” the statement read.
A Growing Concern
The tragic incident adds to the rising number of sudden deaths among Nigerians in the UK. On January 3, 2024, it was reported that Chinonso Ezeonwumere, another Nigerian student, died under similar circumstances while waiting to resume work.
Nigerians living in the UK have expressed shock at the growing trend of sudden deaths, urging the community to provide support for grieving families and explore underlying health issues contributing to these tragedies.
