Carol Royle, the actress known for her role in Coronation Street, has revealed that her husband, Julian Spear, tragically passed away following a sudden brain haemorrhage after jumping into a freezing swimming pool.
In an emotional Instagram post, Royle, 70, shared the devastating news, saying, “I am desperately sorry to post that we lost my wonderful husband, Julian Spear, on December 9. He was a perfectly fit man but jumped into a freezing pool which he assumed was heated as per usual yesterday, and he developed a sudden massive brain haemorrhage – our hearts are aching.”
Royle, who joined the Coronation Street cast in 2024, had been married to Spear for nearly five decades. The couple had two children together. Julian Spear, who worked in the music industry, was also the son of actor Bernard Spear, known for his role in the 1968 classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Royle, also a familiar face from Casualty, Doctors, and Heartbeat, has expressed her profound sorrow following the tragic loss.
