A senior British Army officer has been charged after allegedly attempting to take a decommissioned hand grenade through security at Edinburgh Airport. Lieutenant Colonel Hugo Clark, 54, was arrested on 16 October when a dummy grenade, typically used in training, was discovered in his hand luggage. The bomb squad was called to the scene, but the device was assessed as non-viable and posed no threat.
Police Scotland confirmed the incident occurred around 08:05 AM on 16 October, with the man being arrested and later released on the condition he appear in court at a later date.
An Army spokesperson acknowledged the involvement of a service member in the security breach but declined to comment further due to ongoing legal proceedings. The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service has been contacted for additional details.
