Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team (TVMRT) has reported its busiest month on record, with more than a dozen callouts in October. The volunteer rescue team, which had already been on track for its busiest year in 2024, responded to a variety of incidents involving hillwalkers, mountain bikers, and even a pet dog.
The rescues spanned a wide geographical area, many taking place outside the boundaries of the Scottish Borders. TVMRT noted that several operations occurred in darkness, a common challenge as daylight hours shorten in the autumn months.
In total, team members dedicated nearly 400 hours across multiple rescue missions. These included three missing person searches, multiple rescues involving hillwalkers and mountain bikers, and one false alarm.
The charity is currently fundraising £3,000 to purchase thermal imaging camera equipment, which would significantly enhance their ability to conduct rescues in low visibility conditions, particularly during nighttime operations.
