The parents of 15-year-old Holly Newton, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, expressed that no sentence could alleviate their pain after Logan MacPhail was sentenced to a minimum of 17 years for her murder.
Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Holly’s mother, Micala Trussler, called for a change in the legal recognition of victims of domestic abuse, emphasizing that children in younger relationships can also be victims. She stated, “We need more education, not just for children but for teachers and parents,” highlighting the importance of awareness regarding red flags in teenage relationships.
In addition to advocating for legal reform, Micala and her husband, Lee, have been fundraising to install bleed boxes in public areas to assist in emergencies involving critical bleeding. Their efforts aim to raise awareness and improve safety in their community.
