During the trial, the court heard disturbing details about Teo’s actions. After giving birth at her flat on Raglan Street, she placed her baby in a cereal box, sealed it in a plastic bag, and then hid the box inside a suitcase. Judge Mrs Justice Tipples emphasized that Teo had planned the murder, rejecting her defense claim that she had heard voices urging her to harm the baby.

In her sentencing remarks, Justice Tipples expressed her belief that Teo was aware of the consequences of her actions, stating, “You knew that, by sealing that plastic bag, your baby would certainly die.” She pointed out that Teo had denied giving birth when seeking medical help, only admitting to concealing the body after a thorough examination.

The judge conveyed that Teo’s decision to give birth in secret and subsequently kill her child indicated a determination to hide her pregnancy and the birth from others. She characterized Teo’s actions as a deliberate effort to ensure that no one would know about the child, culminating in a tragic and heinous crime.
