Wrexham AFC fans have a new reason to visit the Centenary Club café as the Welshpool costume, worn by star striker Paul Mullin in the blockbuster film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” has been put on display. The iconic suit, which Mullin donned in his cameo as “Welshpool”—a Welsh version of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool—was unveiled at the stadium by Mullin himself, alongside Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The Welshpool costume, prominently adorned with Welsh flags across the chest and shoulders, now sits behind a glass case, allowing fans to take photos with this unique piece of film and football memorabilia. The suit made its debut on the big screen during a sequence featuring multiple Deadpool variants, with Welshpool standing out as one of the deadliest.
“You may have noticed one member of the Deadpool Corps was far deadlier than the rest. WELSHPOOL,” Reynolds humorously remarked on X (formerly Twitter) following the film’s release on July 25th in the UK.
In addition to Mullin’s memorable appearance, fellow Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer also made a cameo in the film, playing a bartender in a background scene. The film’s release has generated significant buzz around the club, which has seen a resurgence under the ownership of Reynolds and McElhenney since their takeover in 2020. The duo has guided the team to promotion to League One, a journey documented in the popular streaming series “Welcome to Wrexham.”
As Wrexham AFC prepares for the new season, the addition of the Welshpool costume display offers fans a tangible connection to the intersection of their beloved football club and Hollywood glamour.
