Phil Foden Departs England Camp for Child’s Birth: Euro 2024 Update
England midfielder Phil Foden has left the national team’s Euro 2024 camp in Germany to return to the UK for the birth of his third child, the Football Association confirmed today.
Foden, a key player for Manchester City, departed due to what was described as a “pressing family matter,” prompting his temporary absence from the squad. The Football Association expressed hope that Foden would rejoin the team by Sunday, which coincides with England’s upcoming last-16 match scheduled for 17:00 BST.
In April, Foden and his partner Rebecca Cooke had announced the impending arrival of their third child via Instagram. The couple already has two children together: son Ronnie, aged five, and daughter True, who is two years old.
Having earned 37 caps, Foden notably started in all three of England’s group stage matches at Euro 2024, including their recent draw against Slovenia. Managed by Gareth Southgate, the English squad finished at the top of Group C with a total of five points from three games.
The location for England’s last-16 fixture is set in Gelsenkirchen, with their opponent to be determined following the conclusion of Wednesday’s final group stage matches.
