Nigel Farage encountered a hostile reception during his campaign tour in South Yorkshire, as objects were hurled at him while he stood atop an open-top bus in Barnsley. In response to the incident, Farage condemned what he described as a “violent left-wing mob” attempting to intimidate him, asserting his resilience against such actions. South Yorkshire Police swiftly arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of public order offenses, believed to have thrown the objects from a nearby construction site.

Despite the disruption, Farage remained undeterred, emphasizing his determination to continue his election campaign. The video he shared on social media depicted a man in a red jacket launching objects before being apprehended by construction workers and subsequently detained by police. The altercation occurred amidst a clash between Reform UK supporters and Stand Up to Racism protestors, both vehemently expressing their opposing views.

Prior to the incident, Farage had been advised by law enforcement to remain on the bus for his safety. Earlier stops on his tour had yielded a warmer reception, with Farage engaging with locals in Hoyland and even jesting about the prospect of being targeted with eggs, following a previous milkshake incident. Last week, Farage had a banana milkshake thrown at him during campaigning in Clacton, resulting in charges against a woman. This wasn’t the first time he faced such incidents, as in 2019, he experienced similar attacks with milkshakes during a walkabout in Newcastle.
